Been having issues the past month or so where my internet speeds are dying down to 2-5mbps on a 1gig connection where as normally I would be seeing 1.2gbps .

Upstream has no errors but downstream is horrendous.
Below is a copy pasta just after restarting the router which temporally fixes things for a bit.

The signal level is so below normal, start by checking for a known fault in your street :

Call 0800 561 0061 – this is an automated number.
https://www.virginmedia.com/help/check/status/identification/identify

Failing this, contact VM and book an engineer visit to correct the signal levels.

VM Customer Services are on 150 or 0345 454 1111 from a non-VM phone.

Downstream Power levels are supposed to be from -7 to +7 with a max of +10 dBmV

Hello mcraig31

Thanks for popping back on our community, sorry you've had to though for help with your download speeds.

We do have the ability to run a few checks on equipment from here, after checking the upstream and downstream levels we can see you have an engineer booked to attend.

Would you be able to keep us posted how the visit goes and how the speeds are after this visit.

We're only a message away if you need anything else at all?

While you're waiting, do check that all coax cables are tight, both in the home (both ends) and in the VM brown box outside.  Then let us know.  It might be a quick fix.

update - engineer came out, turns out the attenuators on the cable ends were way over powered an causing issues. He quickly swapped them out and removed the splitter that was left by the previous residents. A++ on the guy who came out, great chat, very friendly, very approachable, all round good guy and very knowledgeable. I wish we could give these people a commendation somewhere or let virgin know.

Glad to hear this has been a successful trip.

If you need anything in the future you know where we are.

Enjoy your weekend 🙂
