Ethernet connection drops suddenly

Hi there,

I've recently had the 350mb Internet and Phone package installed. I've got various devices using this, with my main computer that I use for Gaming and Work being connected via Ethernet (Gigabit Network card). I've noticed that the Ethernet drops and it goes back to WiFi for between 5-10 seconds, then switched back as Ethernet connects again. It's very strange as this doesn't seem to happen via Wifi, and I've never had this with my previous provider (Sky).

To make matters even stranger, having checked older forum posts I've gone into my Routers admin to check the Router Status and found that there are recorded dropouts referencing the error code:
"No Ranging Response received", which coincide with the Ethernet dropouts I receive.

Here's the log:

Any ideas? Any help would be hugely appreciated. My current guestimate is the Hub needs replacing or the cables running to my house haven't been configured correctly.

Re: Ethernet connection drops suddenly

Stats are fine. The T3’s errors are bad, usually cause by noise on the circuit. Try calling customer services to see if there is a problem in your local area. It will not appear on the VM status page if there is.

Re: Ethernet connection drops suddenly

Hi Tudor, thanks for replying. Would the T3 errors usually affect Wifi as well, as I've not seen any issues with that, just with Ethernet.

Re: Ethernet connection drops suddenly

Since T3 (and similar) errors affect your cable connection, they would certainly affect wifi.  But because wifi is both a slower, but more fault tolerant protocol than the DOCSIS cable technology you'd possibly be less likely to notice momentary interruptions.  But Windows will notice when it loses an internet connection, and then you'd potentially have to wait for it to reset the PC's network adaptor.

You might want to set up a Broadband Quality Monitor over at thinkbroadband.com let it run for a few days and see what that shows.  An example is my BQM (below) which is for a connection that's usually pretty solid, but you'll see the red spike of significant packet loss around 8pm that indicates a momentary loss of internet connectivity between the thinkbroadband server and my hub.
