I received a booking for an engineer after going through the on line checking process. I know my hub is broken, but my question is do engineers carry spare hubs as I don’t want the engineer to arrive, tell me I need a new hub and say he has to order it.

The engineer that came to us had many spare hubs on the van.
When our hub failed, the engineer replaced and activated the new hub before leaving.

The techs carry hubs and swap if they decide the hub is faulty

Thanks for posting in regards to our technicians, we appreciate you raising the query via the forums.
As has been mentioned, our technicians do carry additional equipment in case a replacement is needed on one visit. They do carry other equipment also to help resolve customer queries when visiting.
If a replacement was required they would already have it with them.
