Hello all.
I’ve recently invested in a TP-Link AXE5400 tri-band router to boost my WI-Fi around our 3 bed house, and in particular my gaming set up. My Virgin hub 4 is now in modem mode.
Unfortunately this hasn’t worked out as I’d hoped. So I’m now looking at the possibility of potentially moving the Ethernet port to the spare room upstairs on the opposite side of the house. Obviously this is dependent on how much this kind of work would cost.
I’ve seen in the past Virgin would do this for you for a small fee if you are experiencing issues, so still wondering if this is the case? Any advice would be extremely helpful.

VM do not install Ethernet cables or connections. They will move your VM hub for £25, but this is possibly not what you want. Ethernet connection are easy to wire up and any electrician should be able to run an Ethernet cable for you.

Do you mean this? If so yes this is exactly what I mean. It’s currently located in the living room of the front side of the house, I’d ideally like it moved to the spare room on the back side of the house. I’m an end terrace so I’m assuming this shouldn’t be an issue?

No thats your Hub. They will move that for you for £25. But as Tudor replied... you said you wanted an ethernet port moved - which is a different beast altogether.

Sorry, I don’t think I explained it well and perhaps got the “internet jargon” mixed up. I would like to move this hub to the spare room upstairs to allow me to move my router and establish an Ethernet connection to hardwire my games console. Is this possible?

Yes, £25 charge as stated.

Yes it’s possible to move the hub, but it is very likely to affect your WiFi in other parts of your home. If this is acceptable then get VM to move your hub. The thick VM coax would ideally be run externally, but if not the technician will run it around the skirting board. Although as I stated it would probably be better the wire your machine into your router by an Ethernet cable back to its current location.

My Wi-Fi around the home is generally decent. But when it comes to gaming I’d prefer to have the best speed possible and that’s always via Ethernet. If I were to opt for the second option and get an electrician to route a cable to my spare bedroom approximately how much would that cost? Bare in mind it’s a 3 bed house.

Hi @CymroMatt
Thanks for posting and welcome to the community (thanks to all that have responded).
I can see you've spoke to the team since posting and booked a relocation engineer visit.
Please let us know how this goes.
Best wishes.

I also live in an end-terrace house. My tv access is at ground-floor front but the computers' access is at second-floor rear; that's how it was installed (at my request) back in the 1980s. The cable to the rear access point runs around the house exterior.
