Connection keeps dropping

Last few years it has been fine and then a couple of months ago, my pc would lose its connection.  It is on the same side of the house (3 bed semi) as the router.  Then the kitchen (other end) became a bit unreliable.  Now the connection is getting worse and worse.  I have tried rebooting the router, the devices, forgetting the connection and anything else i can think of.

About a month ago i changed the security to WPA2 (or whatever it was my macbook was complaining about) but it was happening before then.

It happened again this morning.  Had to reboot the router.  It has certainly happened on PCs (mine and my partners) and a macbook.

Hi thirdprize, thanks for getting back to us.

Sorry to hear your intermittent connection is still ongoing.  When you say that your connection dropped on Thursday morning, do you mean your connection as a whole?  Or WiFi only?  We do have these tips available to help with broadband issues:
• Service status page - virg.in/service
• Wi-Fi hints and tips - https://virg.in/wifisos
• Wi-Fi troubleshooting - https://virg.in/wifinotworking

I am sorry, we cannot find any issues from our side.

It is still playing up.  Yesterday was really bad.  If you look at the broadband monitor i set up you will see packet loss was 100% for about a day.

That is dreadful.

Hi thirdprize,

Thanks for attaching your BQMs. It certainly is strange as they show that the hub had a total loss of connection during the hours where there's total package loss, but from looking at Samknows from this end no package loss is showing at all. It really is odd.

How's things been since Tuesday?

Beth

It's weird.  It is most noticable on PC/mac where it can go out for long stretches.  Wednesday it was out most of the morning.  Having said that our phones and tablets seemed to be working ok.  It is noticable on two separate laptops and a pc. I can look something up on a phone (no sim) connected to the network while the pc can't even see the network.

Hi thirdprize, thanks for the message and welcome back to the forums.

I have looked into this for you and cannot see any dropouts since the reboot was done 3 days ago.

Can you monitor the connection and let us know if anything changes?

Kind regards, Chris.

This is getting boring now.  Something is definitely up even if it is router => PC and not your network.  How do I get a new router?

Hi @thirdprize thanks for your reply here.

I'm sorry but you haven't mentioned how things have been, from what we can see on our side a new Hub isn't required at the time of writing.

You have said too that this doesn't impact the majority of your devices, which can demonstrate it is device-specific or activity-specific issues.

If you are streaming for example, then this may benefit you more on a wired connection via ethernet.

We hope this helps.

Many thanks
