Checkpoint VPN connectivity

linuxtarragon
Tuning in

Had issue in area last Wednesday. Reported as fixed, Wednesday morning. Line connectivity appears fine. Non-VPN connectivity is fine.

Work laptop will now not connect. It uses CheckPoint End Point Security to create a VPN.

Laptop connection has worked for last 2 years. It works if I use a mobile hotspot. It works in my office. It works in 3 separate coffee shops. It works on another Virgin Media 4 hub at a house about 1 mile away.

My hub4 fails both on WiFi and wired for the work laptop.

It the issue likely to be my hub4 (reset with 1 minute power off changes nothing) or is there some VPN filtering likely to have been set locally?

If Web Safe is off then you should be able to visit https://protonvpn.com, is that the case?

Have you tried temporarily turning Web Safe off to see if the issue persists?

Unfortunately both Web Safe settings are turned off by default.

When trying to turn on (just so I can then turn off again) the site says "Sorry the changes you made were not saved, please try again"

First thing to try on your laptop is using this DNS service...

https://1.1.1.1/

,,,,,Failing that, in my previous job during lockdown, had a lot of experience with VPN connectivity issues.

What fixed 99% of issues was the following...

Disable Miniport Adapters
  1. Navigate to Device Manager.
  2. Expand Network Adapters.
  3. Right-click each WAN Miniport entry and delete them all
  4. Restart your computer and re-test the VPN

Oh and as well as the above, disable Fast Startup...

Yes access to https://protonvpn.com was available on all devices.

Eventually I managed to get through to the connection team on 0800 014 7397.

They were very helpful and checked the hub. While they claimed they did no changes, the connection sprung to life while they were on the call.

Hello linuxtarragon.

Thank you very much for your update. Glad to see this is all sorted now for you.

If you need anything else, pop back on here and ask away.

Hi

I google that number

and it came up "0800 014 7xxx"

According to our users’ reports, there is a high probability that the telephone number 08000147xxx is associated with a payment scam activity impersonating Virgin Media!

It is possible that this phone call is not authentic and does not belong to Virgin Media, despite what the caller may suggest.##

Strange...

[MOD EDIT: number edited in case it's an innocent number being spoofed]

Hi all,

We have checked and can confirm this number is a legit number with us.
