Broadband speed capped at 100MB

On our wavelength

Hello there,

My broadband speed seems capped at 100MB where it should be 1GB.
On a usual day broadband speed on my router is measured at circa 900MB down and 50MB up. But for some reason there is days (like today) where my download speed doesn't go over 100MB. Sometime restarting the Hub3 modem is fixing this problem but too often it changes nothing, which make me think that issue is not with the modem.

Here is values from the status page,

I'm not that familiar with hub 4 stats ( I assume you have a 4 not a 3) but they look okay to me.

There is a thread on hub 4 speed issues that might be relevant here https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/Hub4-sudden-drop-from-1-1Gb-to-94Mb-in-download/td-p/4961...

Also maybe try a different 5e or better ethernet cable.

Lastly check for local issues on 0800 561 006.

Stats ok, but also need the upstream ones, they are as important as the downstream.

@Cardiffman You are correct, it's an Hub 4. I had a Hub 3 for so many years that I forgot this one is a 4th gen 🙂
Will look at some of solutions in post you linked, although some answers are missing the spot IMO, there is some ideas that worth a try. Note that I am using a private router with the Hub in modem mode. Speed test is from the router that is connected to modem by a Category 6 (I am using a Linksys WRT32X router). As for calling VM on faults in the area, I gave up long ago as they always say everything is fine even when not.

@Tudor Upload not incriminated here as work at expected speed. Only download speed affected. Still for the sake of why-not here are the stats.

Yup upstream all looks good too.

Also with any third party router the normal advice is to disable QoS and universal beamforming.

After discarding the funny answers from the linked post above, one hypothesis really got my attention: Ethernet port on the Hub is locked in 100MB instead of 1000MB.
I moved cable from 1st to 2nd port and I have got my 1GB back!

So each time I rebooted the Hub until now, it was only helping it not to soft lock speed not being able to negotiate port speed. Sounds like a hardware or firmware issue to me.

Will use 2nd port for now and see how it goes.

Thanks guys for the quick answers! Back to Lost Ark now.
