Broadband issues - neighbour connection causing signal to drop

I had an engineer out today who located what our problem could be with our hub not connecting and flashing green, they discovered the cables to mine and flat next door connect into another flat and they need access to that flat in order to try to fix it. 
there’s been no answer all day so I was told to just leave a note on the door and tell them to contact me so we can arrange a date when they’re home so that we can get the engineer out again, 

my only worry is that this neighbour isn’t around much so I’m worried that they won’t be back for a while and myself and other neighbour will be without WiFi for a few days or more even after paying our bill. This isn’t anyone’s fault of course but just a worry as i use the internet for work sometimes so the sooner I can sort this out the better, I wouldn’t mind so much if I had an idea of when this could be fixed but Im not sure if it’s worth just switching supplies either so that I’m not stuck. 
If I don’t hear anything from my neighbour after a week would there be anything I can do ? Or just switch?

Strange one.  VM have managed to turn their problem into your problem.  Why should one flat be holding up everyone else, and why is it up to you to get this arranged?  If this really is the case, the cables should be re-run to avoid such a problem?  I would be asking for compensation for each day of disconnection and a 4G dongle for your internet access.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.
