Are my downstream and upstream power levels within spec?

oscarandjo
On our wavelength

I recently moved to a new house and decided to stay with Virgin Media as I was quite happy with it in my last place. In the new place I have found the connection to be quite frustrating, with pages sometimes loading indefinitely, and video calls being choppy and cutting out.

I wanted to try to triage as to whether this is a line issue or if I need to buy a new Wireless Access Point to improve range.

Are these downstream & upstream power levels within specification?

Nope

The Down channels are all to high - +10dBmV is the recommended maximum.

The Up channels are all too low should be over 34 dBmV. And qam dropping to 32.

And too many PostRS and T3 errors.

It will need a Tech visit to adjust those to the correct levels - call it in as a fault or a VM person will respond here in a day or two.

Hi oscarandjo

Thanks for posting and welcome back to the community.

Sorry to hear of the broadband issues.

I've done a system check and you are affected by an SNR (signal to noise ratio) issue.

Fault reference - F010167077 and the estimated fix date is the 14th October at 1.05pm. Please monitor the connection after this time and report back any issues.

Best,

Thank you both for the informative replies! I will see if there’s an improvement after that repair is done. Is there any way I can subscribe to status update email/SMS for that issue reference?

Thanks once again!

If you phone the number below you should be able to do that.

Check with Area faults on 0800 561 0061 If you have a VM landline 150 this goes down to post code level.

Just to say, make sure that the technician notices the power levels.  When they are that high, noise is amplified as well as signal.  That's in addition to the SNR issue identified by the VM responder - which the technician can do nothing about the SNR.

The attenuator you'll need should be 6 or 8 dB.

Keep us posted.

On our wavelength

The fault reference F010167077 seems to be fixed, but my internet is still quite poor. Do these power levels look like stuff is normal now? Or should I book a technician?

No, still out of spec.

Your downstream levels are to high and need attenuating. I guess you're very close to your street cabinet. A technician needs to move your cable to a higher attenuation tap point in the cabinet.

Your upstream channel 2 has noise, hence 32QAM, but that's sorted at the VM end and it should be working OK.
