I have just joined virgin media and trying to log into.the app but don't have the area code my postcode is sa15 2hp

On the PDF of the  Virgin Media Contract Information Sheet

look for this section on the first page :

Contract information sheet number: 
Customer account number:
Customer area reference:     XX     ( it is a 2 digit number - E.g. ours would be 31 )
