Looks like you were able to help merlinbrent with unlocking his iphone,
I also have a similar problem, I have an Iphone 5 s purchased from Carphone warehouse 2 years ago and used on Virgin Mobile Sim only plan. I am now trying to use my phone on a different network and it keeps asking saying activation required, then Sim card not supported.
Any chance you can advise me on how I should go about getting it unlocked,
All these threads are very familiar. I am a long standing Virgin mobile customer (16+ years) and my problem is as follows:
A bought a iPhone 5S sim free from Carphone Warehouse last year. I have now upgraded to a new iPhone (and I am very happy with it). I know wish to give my old iPhone to a friend - they are unfortunately not with Virgin so I need to unlock it. Have rang Virgin they say IMEI number is not locked to us suggest you contact Apple', contacted Apple they say their records show the carrier is EE and to contact my network to unlock my iPhone. Again Virgin says the same as do Apple - Help!!
I have tried 'restoring' iPhone via connection to iTunes but my friend is still unable to use their sim. Please can you let me know what I should do next - I was going to contact EE but I've never been their customer.
Terri, thanks for getting back to me. In the end I put a call into EE and they are currently processing my unlock. I'll get back to you if I have any problems. I must say the EE unlock team were really helpful - would definitely recommend giving them a call for any one else in the same situation.
I am having a complete knightmare at the moment and have lost ability to receive any calls/texts/whatsapps etc over the xmas period:
Thought I would knock my data usage down on my account as was 20Gb and only use max of about 3.
I have an iphone 8 that was on EE but worked with my old SIM in.
Got a new SIM because of the above, but this is a new network (didnt know) and says my sim is not supported as phone is locked to EE network.
Now because my number has been half ported my account is all messed up as first line.
3 calls to VM to try and resolve - all with different answers - including last night backup and reset my iphone - didnt work. Then another person said I had to go into the VM shop to get the EE lock removed - made the journey into town in the christmas sales - that was fun - only to be told we cant do anything. He did fill a form in requesting a unlock and said thats all he can do - he wouldnt know if or when it will happen.
I am now sat here with a phone no one can ring me on, and a new sim card that does not work.
Not impressed at all with the VM response to this - anyone at VM able to HELP ME PLEASE!!!!????
This doesn't make sense to me. If the iPhone 6s works with your sim, which is Virgin 3g, then it should work with the 4g Virgin sim too. There will be no need to unlock, as 3g/4g are still both on the same network - Virgin.
I would suspect, if the sim doesn't work in either the iPhone 6s, or your phone - that there is something wrong with the sim. Maybe it's not activated etc.
In my opinion though, it does not need to be unlocked.
Hi - its because my old sim was one that shared the EE network so worked. The new SIMs are purely for a Virgin (New) network so that handset is not unlocked to it. If I knew any of this I wouldnt have touched anything to do with the SIMS.
