Why would fraud team need to phone me?

I spoke to someone this afternoon and took out a new mobile contract, I was told I passed the credit check and my new phone was on its way as soon as I have signed my contract via email. I waited and didn't receive the email so rang back up to be told my order has been "parked" and I need to wait for the fraud team to ring me. Why didn't the guy tell me that this afternoon? And why would the fraud ream need to ring me?
