Virgin mobile will not allow me to change plan as failed credit check

my bill has come in at 3 times more than it should as my partner used extra data.  I wanted to change plan from £9 to £16 which covers all data i would need and would save me money but they say i failed credit check and cant change - my last two bills were about £27.00 and they're paid!  i am so fed up and now want to go to a different network.

Thanks for your first post and welcome to our forums page.

Apologies for any disappointment caused by this. As responsible mobile provider, we would need to perform necessary check before a contract is provided. If these checks fail, sadly we would be unable to provide a contract at this time.

but the point is i already have a contract with you - you are allowing me to go over my bill by 18.00 a month and yet wont put my tarriff up by 6.00!! it is a joke and i will be leaving virgin if its not sorted

Thanks for replying, we would only be able to move in the tariff family and if the one which you require if not available the credit check would need to be done

Have you tried setting up an online account here

https://mobile.virginmedia.com/ecare/login

You can then manage your phone accounts there. You can change your tariff (once each month) etc & also, crucially, set a usage cap (you may need a new sim to set a cap though). You can also monitor data usage etc  

I manage 4 phones from my account, its better than the account app IMO.
