My sim card doesn't work, although the number still shows in my virgin account.
I tried the help number : 03456000789 but repeatedly get a message to try later, due to technical difficulties.
How else can I
1: Check if my number is still available to use
2: get a replacement sim card sent out.

Switch your phone on. Ring it. Can you receive and answer the call? If yes the number is still active, if no it aint.
AT a guess from the way you phrase the question its not active.
Thanks for your help : the sim card doesn't work at all : it may be physically damaged & isn't recognized in any phone.
