Cancelling a Mobile Contract

I have recently cancelled an old  mobile contract in writing on the 1st November 2017 and have proof that the letter was signed for .I have received no correspondence to acknowledge my letter which I requested, and yet today payments are still being taken. I am tempted to just cancel the direct debit .Any thoughts as I do not fancy sitting on a phone to discuss this
