I downloaded the virgin mobile app on my phone and it asked for my login details (I forgot my password), so I clicked the link that you click when you forget your details, and it asked for my area reference number (I was told it was on my virgin mobile bill....it is not on there). Then I rang up to speak to someone on the virgin mobile team, and the person said, it is on my contract letter (which I binned ages ago) and wouldn't tell me when I asked if he could.
Could someone please tell me the 2 digit area reference number for Batley, west Yorkshire?

If you are a mobile customer, you would not have an area reference. This is account information which our home media customers have.
It sounds like you're trying to login to the media app, rather than mobile. Please ensure you're accessing the correct mobile app and/or the mobile site. If you're wanting to use the Virgin Media Connect app to use hotspots whilst out and about, please ensure you follow the relevant instructions to sign in.
