Virgin Media E-Mail saying Bill Overdue was Wrong

I am wondering if any other VM customer has received an e-mail saying they had not paid their monthly bill and their account was overdue. I received such an e-mail recently while travelling and found it was not a scam but a mistake by Virgin Media after a software 'upgrade'. I received a verbal apology which was not much consolation after several failed attempts to contact Virgin Media and the angst of wondering why a Direct Debit which has worked for many years had suddenly stopped working. No e-mail correction was sent by Virgin Media despite my account being paid up, as usual.

Hi ahrbee,

Thank you for your post. I'm sorry to hear about what has happened.

When you spoke with the agent did they advise if the direct debit was all setup okay?

The agent said everything was in order. The Direct Debit has worked as usual this month. Everything seems to be in order, except the alarming e-mail from Virgin Media. I have had no further communication about the supposed 'issue'.

Re: Virgin Media E-Mail saying Bill Overdue was Wrong

It sounds like a scam email not sent by us that.

Please forward it to phishing@virginmedia.co.uk and we can take a look at it.

Yes I got one today, also a month ago, saying there is an amount owing from last month. I pay via Direct Debit so how can this be my fault?!

Re: Virgin Media E-Mail saying Bill Overdue was Wrong

My e-mail was not a scam. We checked the e-mail address and it was Virgin Media. When I called Virgin Media, using the number on the Virgin Media website, the agent checked my account, confirmed it was in order and admitted that the e-mail had been sent out in error. My e-mail looked very like the one above. Why would the agent admit it was sent in error from Virgin Media if it was a scam e-mail? It would have been much easier for her to write it off as a scam. I believe my e-mail was genuine and a mistake by Virgin Media's system, not a scam.
