Struggles with confirmation email on account

Setup an account in August, tied to the accont number given by Virgin Media

When trying to login to the account it shows 

"Sign in to My Virgin Media
 You haven't confirmed this email address yet. Please check your inbox for a message called 'Verify your My Virgin Media email' and click the link in the email."

We did receive an email advising to confirm the account, but when you select the included hyperlink, it goes to Virgin website and says there's an error

Oops something went wrong and to confirm your email 
(that's what we are trying to do)

This has been going ever since

When we call they don't seem to be able to help
