Hub 4 electricity consumption query

For April, my electricity usage was unusually quite a bit higher ( Fxd energy acc't; no change there) and the only change recently has been from my router to the Hub 4 installed during VOIP installation in March.  I noticed that it runs quite warm (the old one didn't) and discover that it uses 12W idle and 15.3 W in use. This equates to around 350 W per day and nearly 2.5 kW per week, which is high compared to the previous router and I'm surprised at the difference. Is this a particularly hungry hub compared to others and is there an alternative with lower running costs?  Meanwhile, is there any downside to turning it off at night and on again in the morning?  I appreciate that this would disable the landline but calls are non-existent overnight anyway, and we don't have an alternative.

We need to reduce this waste of energy, and would appreciate any advice on these points.

Thanks,

MAR

Try a couple of past topics below which may help you decide. It's a matter of personal choice really.

Your hub power usage figures of 12W to 15W match with the topics below.

As well as the landline, consider (if relevant) any other services which might go offline when the hub is off (security alarm/cameras, heating system etc. etc.)

Thank you, Go Slow, for your helpful advice and links to other opinions. We only have broadband (with wi-fi) and phone; no other uses are likely. and maybe the power-hungry Hub 4 is overkill for our use.

We shall try to turn it off manually for the 10 hours of night when not needed, and hope that my wife doesn't need to phone for an ambulance during the night.  What a silly, retrograde step this VOIP is, albeit not of Virgin's doing.

I do wonder why my old router couldn't have been left in situ; that never got remotely warm !
