Final bill not taken from bank account. Why have they not taken last direct debit payment

I have left virgin media and received my final bill however this charge has not been taken by direct debit as all previous bills for the last eight years have. I have looked on the virgin site and I cannot pay on my old account as when I press to pay now on the bill it comes up with a something went wrong page.
