Re: Fibre Rollout - Missed part of my street - Rutland Avenue, Lancaster

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.

It's disappointing that Virgin aren't more proactive in putting right what seems basically to be a minor mistake in the planning of the roll-out. I'm sure a quick phone call to the relevant team would be all it takes to put it right.

Best regards,

Charles

Re: Fibre Rollout - Missed part of my street - Rutland Avenue, Lancaster

Hi Virgin Media,

An update for you - following the info kindly provided by nodrogd, I've used the virgin media postcode checker to see the service availability on adjacent roads. It looks like streets where the Smallworld cable was laid that Virgin service is not yet available. For example the whole of Warwick avenue (LA1 4EY) which intersects Rutland Avenue also does not have coverage. Yet there is a brand new virgin fibre cabinet on the intersection of Rutland and Warwick!

Could you kindly clarify whether we are part of the planned rollout or not?

Many thanks,

Charles

Re: Fibre Rollout - Missed part of my street - Rutland Avenue, Lancaster

What has been said verifies my assumption that what you have in your street was previously abandoned HFC build by Smallworld. Usually in areas like this where there was HFC planned Virgin have completed this as HFC, but this looks like it won’t take place here. They obviously don’t want a mix of the two systems in the same area. So work to convert the existing HFC ducting to fibre must be undertaken. The main ducting in the street should not be a problem, but the service ‘tee’s’ will need replacing with ‘toby’ boxes & the cabinets will need replacing.

Got my fingers crossed they have this in the plan. There is no good reason to miss half the estate out.

As a Very Insightful Person, I'm here to share my knowledge. I don't work for Virgin Media.

Hi chunn

The majority of that postcode has cable laid, if it is available to you. It will allow you to process with an order through the postcode checker.

Kind regards

Chris.

Re: Fibre Rollout - Missed part of my street - Rutland Avenue, Lancaster

hi nodrogd,

Thanks very much for your reply.

That makes sense what you say about the HFC cabling. I've taken some pics today and you can see on the corner of Rutland and Warwick (circled in green below) that there are now both Smallworld and Virgin cabinets. It's frustrating to see lightning fast broadband so close, with ducting already in the ground, and yet no service!!

As you say, there's no obvious reason to miss out half the estate.

Hi nodrogd,

Thanks very much for your reply.

There is actually a virgin cabinet right near the old smallworld one at the corner of Rutland and Warwick Avenues. This is just a matter of meters from my property!

Hi there @chunn

Thanks so much for your posts and information about your street and postcodes - thanks also to @nodrogd for the additional details of the area.

I have contacted the department responsible for the cable installations of your area to ask the question directly about the middle section of the street you advise.

We usually get a reply within 5 working days so once we have an update, we'll pop you an update.

Cheers
