There's a bit of popular misconception - firstly no contracts "end" until your services are disconnected, you seem to be referring to the end of your minimum term.
But to be told your services will continue for another billing cycle because you've missed an arbitrary cutoff sounds like a bit of what I will call offshore confusion.
Your services will be disconnected and contract cancelled, 30days after you give notice. The unfortunate bit for you, is that you will be billed for your package at the agreed full price until you are disconnected, and then get refunded after disconnection - this is how final billing works.
If you give your notice today, then you will be disconnected on or around 11th Jan - I can't count the exact 30days, but this should give an idea.

Hi Bronniem,
Thanks for your post and welcome to the forums. It's great having you on board with us in the Community although I am sorry to hear you're having an issue with cancelling your services.
As mentioned by japitts, your contract never ends. Once your minimum term ends, you revert to a 30 day rolling contract. You can give your 30 day notice to leave at any time and the services will then end 30 days later.
We're unable to cancel accounts from here so I would advise calling the team on 150 / 0345 454 1111 so they can take your 30 days notice. You can also WhatsApp the team on 07305327112. Replies aren't instant and can take a few hours however it does allow you to go about your day whilst waiting for a reply.
The final option to cancel is you can write a letter stating that you wish to cancel your services. You will need to include a few details including your account number, your name and full address as well as contact details for you. Send your letter to Virgin Media, Sunderland, SR43 4AA.
Please let us know how you get on.
Thanks,
