Cannot register for my new Online Virgin Media account

I have a new Virgin Media broadband account. However I cannot register for a new online account. I get the following message. I had been with Virgin Media previously many years ago.

"We're sorry to see you go. Now you've left us, we've closed your account and you can no longer register for My Virgin Media"
