Cancel contract

I have just discovered that my fathers media has not been working for over 1 year!!! He’s is elderly and didn’t report a fault. He was paying his bill by direct debit and then decided to cancel his contract by post!!! He assumed this would be sufficient so he cancelled his direct debit also. The letter sent was not recorded delivery and no response was sent. The bills obviously pilled  up. I have managed to pay off the debt but am having a nightmare cancelling for him. What are my options and also is there a way to find evidence of non use of media/ internet. Basically the only thing he has used in over a year is the landline, rarely!!

Sorry to read the above 

I am more than happy to have a look at what has happened 

However we would only be able credit back for non usage from the time a customer reports this to the time a fault is fixed.
