The hub is in a room at the front of the house.  The tivo box is in a room at the back and across the width of another room.  The phone is in the hall at the back of the house.

Does that mean that there will have to be extensive cabling through the house for the phone to work after switchover?

We had problems persuading the engineers to put wiring where we wanted it way back when ntl installed the original many moons ago.

Hi @Ruston19RB,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our community forums. We're here to help.

Have you been notified of the switchover being implemented in your area soon? You can find more information here, but if you speak with the technician when it's being installed and implemented they can look at your wiring to see what can be done for you.

Thanks,

We have been notified about the change over, hence the original message.

We are not at all happy about the situation as it is probably going to mean moving the hub to the hallway where the original phone line and socket is.  Is the connection point for the hub the same as the phone line, as I have a memory of it being a different kind of connection?  This could get messy!

Hi @Ruston19RB,

The router will need to be connected via a coax cable along with its power supply unit as it should be currently. Have you been advised as to when the switch over will be happening for you?

Thanks,

If you happen to have an existing internal phone extension socket anywhere nearby to the hub, then the VM tech should be able to link the hub's phone socket to that and so enable the other phone extension sockets from the hub via that connection. That would involve rewiring of some description though to link the hub to the phone sockets but should not involve having to move the hub position. VM should do that FOC for you as part of the switchover process.

If the wiring involved is too disruptive, you could consider using a cordless phone setup. This is how VM and other providers envisage customers will use the new phone connection via the hub. Plug the cordless base station into the hub and then use cordless satellite handsets around the home as required. There would be a cost to doing this in buying a cordless phone system but it would avoid any wiring work or moving the hub position.

Thank you for your reply.

That's what I was afraid would have to happen.  Any new wiring would be incredibly disruptive as phone sockets are not close to the hub.

Will have to look at new cordless phones I think as our current model is rather old and the messaging part is not all it used to be!

We do appreciate your frustration with this. Our apologies for any inconvenience with that.
