Porting my number

According to my existing provider Virgin Media have not requested to port the number across and if not done will loose number???

By what you have posted I assume that you have contacted your existing provider & given them notice. This is not correct porting procedure under OFCOM rules for porting landline numbers, & could indeed lose you your number.

Virgin not only has to initiate the number port. In doing so they automatically close your account on the day of the number port without any intervention from you. There should be no need to contact your current provider unless you are cancelling TV services.

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums 🙂

As @nodrogd has advised we would need your new provider to fill in a port request form, and then your line would need to stay active while this is processed.
