Phone connection to hub

I have had a landline included in my contract for many years which I haven't used; I've been using an existing BT account instead. I've decided to cancel the BT account. Can I plug my BT phone into the Hub TEL port and if so what plug  adapter do I need - BT plug female to RJ11 male? 

The only Virgin wall socket I have with a telephone socket  is old and no longer in use - it doesn't produce a dial tone when i plug into it.
