Landline only receiving calls from O2 network

Our landline is coming up as busy when not in use, except for people using mobiles on the O2 network. The phone is plugged directly into the Virgin Media wall socket. I have bought a new phone with similar results. VM Support can dial ok using 03454541111 and have run tests and can’t find any problem. They say I will get a call back in 2/3 days which is extremely disappointing. I really need the landline working asap to keep in contact with elderly relatives.

Has anyone else had similar problems?
Can anyone at VM speed the process up?
