House Phone with no dial tone

My home phones are showing an error message " check phone line " --- have gone through the online checks and no success - am not able to resolve issue on line -- do not appear to be able to ask for engineer ???

I'm sorry to see you're having some issues with the line.

Can you confirm for me if you're plugged into the main socket or an extension?

Have you been able to test a different handset?

I have followed the suggested checks, different handset etc,
I have even taken the cover off the main telephone socket and connected to the "emergency / backup " socket that is inside the cover plate.....
No success at present
Any other suggestions gladly received

I have checked the plugs, but have not checked the handset. You can dial numbers but then it cuts of without ringing.
