Getting multiple calls from 'Virgin' saying my router is broken

I am assuming

01246 415 229

01612 112 757

01612 792 548

01612 792 361

01612 799 393

01767 224 893

01767 222 381

etc are spam.

Is there away to actually talk to Virgin to confirm?

Paul

These types of 'broken router' calls are scams. They crop up on the forums on a near-daily basis.

A forum team member will hopefully be along in due course to confirm.

no need for VM to get here - they have confirmed may times that they do not contact customers in this or any way other than [annoying] sales calls

hang up or string them along - if the latter do not allow them access to anything and obviously dont give any personal details and be prepared for them to get annoyed as they try to convince you its a genuine call

Re: Getting multiple calls from 'Virgin' saying my router is broken

I've had 12 calls in the last day and a half:

01612798943

01612798353

01612796693

01522805497

01737216942

01612795468

01767226223

01962857697

01366997931

01733706796

01419521887

01904339278

A lot of people seem to think i have a problem with my router, as these all keep calling. Soon hang up when i ask them to tell me what my name is. Getting very irritating.

Anyway in stopping these? It seems nigh on impossible to get through to anyone at Virgin Media. Was on hold for 40 minutes this morning and the line went dead.

Re: Getting multiple calls from 'Virgin' saying my router is broken

No way to stop them. All of the numbers are spoofed. Some of the numbers may be of genuine people who have had them nicked by the spammers. VM can't help you so stop trying. They are a plague at the moment prompted by the lockdown because many more people are at home. The reason why these calls continue is because enough people answer them and then respond to them. And your irritation is entirely understandable.

So in your opinion it's a waste of time waiting to get through to VM as they cannot do anything about them? Do VM not provide a call blocking service?

VM only have minimal defences against these types of call (namely anonymous caller rejection) which does not work when the calls use fake caller ID.

Have a look at a call screening/blocking phone or a separate device such as CPR Call Blocker or trueCall. I have found the trueCall standalone device 100% effective at blocking the scam calls on my own line.

A recent post by @Azzer below describes his experiences of using one of the BT cordless phones based on the trueCall technology

The calls can be screened and blocked but unfortunately with VM you have to buy in some extra kit to do it.
