Charges on landline and no itemised bill

Billy70

Hello all,

I've been charged for calls even though I have a fully inclusive call package on my landline for mobile and landline calls.

I, as per previous forum members, have questioned why I cannot be given an itemised bill, and was told as per others, it was due to data protection reasons. One of my family members is with another provider, and gets itemised bills every month.

On questioning the charges, I've been given three different sets of information. The latest is that the persons I've called (2 and the total number of minutes on said calls totals less than three minutes), have linked their phone through their WIFI and hence I've incurred charges.

When I asked what the numbers were, I was given the flannel I've posted above.

What sort of nonsense is this? You charge me and can't even tell me the numbers so I can avoid using my landline for said numbers?

You claim you don't issue itemised bills, even though BT and Sky still do?

Call centre staff are clueless and need to stop telling lies.

Virgin - sort this out! It's a joke.

You can get fully itemised billing but you have to specifically request it for your account. I believe that the default amount normally is calls over 50p. I don't think the full billing lists calls that are covered under your plan.

The matter of mobile charges, could it be this?

and

relating to 'wi-fi' mobiles?

This is a very shady area IMO. OFCOM's web page (aside from 070) lists anything 07 is just a mobile number

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/advice-for-consumers/costs-and-billing/how-muc...

although the difference is listed at the bottom of page 4 in the small print of the VM charges booklet

Thank you so much!

Yes it was an 07488 number and thank you for the thread which was most helpful.

I will use my mobile for that number in future to not incur charges.

Really appreciate your detailed response.
Thank you!

You're welcome. Do check on the call charges via your mobile provider too, to make sure there is nothing similar in place with them.

A full break down of all the charging bands is given in the VM landline 'Call Charges By Dial Code' document

https://www.virginmedia.com/content/dam/virginmedia/dotcom/images/mobile-browse/downloads/010420_Cal...

I believe FM codes are standard mobiles. FW codes are WiFi

The idea that you have to check a 218 page document before calling a 07 number seems to me to be a little bit ... inconvenient.

Its the difference between mobile network phones & other non fixed services.

The 07 range also contains "follow me" personal numbers, pagers & other services that are chargeable by the providers outside of mobile calling packages.

I think OFCOM missed a trick here when internet & WiFi services were launched, & should have allocated these to the unused 04 or 06 ranges. As it is we have gone back to the confusion like the days when mobiles were using 07, 08 & 09 numbers in the same bands as non geographic & premium numbers.

Thank you, you've been so helpful.

I posted about the Ring doorbell some months ago, and got no replies.

Please could you help with that as you're so knowledge able? Don't mean to be cheeky but my query remained unresolved.

Thanks so much, again.

Have just read your previous doorbell query. I think the reason it remained unanswered was that it was a bit of a "How long is a piece of string?" kind of question. There are so many variables in the equation of getting a wireless doorbell to work, that it would be highly specific to your own home (notwithstanding the limitations of the VM hub's wireless capabilities)

You could try adding another post onto your previous topic from Feb '21 in 'Networking and Wifi' with some more detail and see if anyone picks it up or just try posting a new topic on there with a bit more detail about the layout of your home and where the hub/door bell location are in relation to each other as that would have a biggest effect on how well it might work.

The tech experts on the 'Networking and Wifi' forum would probably recommend not using the VM hub for wireless but would generally recommend putting it into modem mode and using third party wireless equipment for a better, more-reliable signal/connection. Unfortunately that would only add further costs to your doorbell project.
