does putting the hub in modem mode lower pings, over an ethernet connection?

Not to any noticeable extent, no.

@chris880 Do you have a "ping problem"?  Whilst cable internet does have a higher and more variable ping than a good Openreach connection, that difference should be small enough not to be noticeable if the VM connection is working well.

If in doubt, setup a BQM over at https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality   Post a LINK to a LIVE, SHARED graph here and we'll see what's happening.  Usually needs to run for 24 hours before we can draw reasonable conclusions, but the live graph will continuously update so you can post the link immediately.

Hi EraFN, sorry to hear you've had issues with ping as well.  I can see your other post about problems with your TV service as well so I will respond on there and do my best to help get things sorted.

It doesnt magicaly make your connection work better.

Modem mode and a third party router if you need more then 1 device connected will improve quality of connection around the house.
