VIVID 350 or BT FTTC for gaming IRL results inside.

I am seeing so many complaints regarding gaming with Virgin Media so just for a quick comparison of the two as I have both VM 350 and BT FTTC connections.

Nothing special just a quick ping test on a wired Windows 10 PC.

I quit even trying to game with my Virgin Media connection a while ago now and have never looked back, just look at my graphs below.

Now if anyone else wants me to ping something else let me know I will happily oblige.

The sooner infinity 2 is in my area the better been a customer for 21 years. just changed over to Sky for TV, I'd gladly give up my VM 200 for a BT line having used it at a friends gaming was night and day upload speed was miles better and web pages and YouTube videos were much more responsive.

At peak times your BT BQM also looks bad?

Also you've got dropped packets on your VM line so suspect you've got a little over utilisation in your area or noise on your line

Okay - for gaming a good, fast path VDSL / FTTC line will probably beat VM. VDSL 2 has lower jitter and similar or better first hop latency. VM's network can also take some 'interesting' paths to third party servers resulting in higher end-to-end latency.

However sub-optimal VDSL 2 lines can be inferior. They may have high interleave imposed on them to stabilise them, substantially increasing baseline ping.

Re: VIVID 350 or BT FTTC for gaming IRL results inside.

Best case scenario for both, though, the pecking order runs: FTTP, apart from VM RFoG > VDSL 2 / FTTC > VM > ADSL / ADSL 2+.

If on a longer copper line to the cabinet, however, and running close to the limits of the line VM will usually outperform VDSL 2 / FTTC. Note that I'm not talking about either service being faulty here, interleave on xDSL is a normal part of operation. If either is actually faulty all bets are off.

I was bashing the connection during peak time yesterday downloading Battlefield 5 and fallout 76 which is why it looked very busy Smiley LOL

Look at my sig below I have had high utilisation on my VM line for almost 4 YEARS!!!! And I am still waiting for it to be fixed, another reason why I will not recommend Virgin Media to anyone.
