Ping Spikes Randomly While Gaming.

Hello,

Whenever I try to play games online, ping keeps spiking intermittently throughout the whole day averaging from 25-40 ms to 1000+ ms for a couple of seconds combined with some packet loss. It really affects my gaming experience heavily in ping-sensitive environments such as first-person shooters and fighting games; it's extremely frustrating. 

Any assistance to fix this problem would be great. 👍

p.s. - I have a Gig1 broadband only package with a Hub 5 and wired.

Given you're presumably using that connection fair to assume there are one or more upstreams connected, or you're on the 3.1 block only, which is very odd.
