PS5 download speed

Cwkcunny
Tuning in

Hi,

I have 1gig fibre and my ps5 speed test comes up at between 540mbs and 840mbs. However i downloaded a 20GB update and it took 30mins to complete. Should that not have been closer to 10mins? PS5 is wired direct to hub.

When i do the sam knows test my speed to the hub can vary between 400 and 900. I get 250-300 to my phone on wifi.

Are these the speeds i should be expecting?

Craig

They're showing!

Truth be told they look OK.

U/S Power is a little on the low side (assuming no FTTP) but within spec!

Hey,

Yea i noticed after the third time!!

It should be FTTP as we got cabels layed specifically for the install.

Unless you are in a FTTP area then the cables they installed will still be coax, which is more than capable of delivering 1 gbps.

Thanks for your post and welcome to the Community Forums, Cwkcunny,

I haven't been able to identify any issues with your connection, your speeds to dhow to be within the expected range.

Cheers,

Corey C

@Cwkcunny  Nothing obviously amiss in the data, although as @lotharmat says upstream might be on the low side, but it also looks like you had restarted the hub shortly before those stats were taken?  Wait 24 hours without a restart, and take a look again, in particular whether there's any number of T3 timeouts in the upstream errors table, or any number of post-RS errors in the downstream table.  If there are, repost the data and we'll be able to comment further.

One other thing to do on connections that seem to have variable performance is to setup a Broadband Quality Monitor.  That will show if there's anything unseen going on with your VM connection.  Post a LINK to a LIVE, SHARED graph here and we'll see what's happening.  Usually needs to run for 24 hours before we can draw reasonable conclusions, but the live graph will continuously update so you can post the link immediately.

Thanks for all your responses.

Thanks for confirming nothing a miss. Unfortunatly my wife is anti plug at night and turns them all off hence the router restart. Seems like the speeds actually pick up by the afternoon as i was able to complete a 40gb download in 4.5mins. Whilst also on an 8 people teams video call. << super impressed with that. First time i have fully noticed the increase!.

Craig

I'm all in favour of regular reboots, and in normal circumstances my hub is on timer to go off overnight (which because a cable hub is a bit of an energy hog pays for the timer plug in a year).  Maybe check the errors and timeouts before the hub gets put to bed?

Even very low levels of errors can kill speed when they're present - I've currently got an intermittent packet loss issue, and even at barely visible levels on a BQM chart it's killing my 200 Mbps speed down to 50-70 Mbps.

Never never go by sonys speedtest on a PS4 or PS5. Never gives a correct result.

I have to admit sonys backend has improved since the PS5 came out, downloading on my PS4 has improved, and my PS5 download speed is ok, never maxes out my 1Gig speed.

Hi @Cwkcunny.

Thank you for coming back to us about your speed issue.

I was able to locate your account and run some extra checks in regards to your speed query. However, I cannot see any issues listed on our system.

Your power levels look perfectly fine with no issues at the moment.

Please keep an eye on your speeds and keep us updated if you notice anything out of the ordinary, so we can look into this for you.

Thanks,
