Re: Lagging in all games

Switching provider may not help if they are using the same server when routing to the EA servers.

Try contacting the server owner directly with the trace routes online.

EDIT:

Here is my traceroute to the same address for comparison:

I do not have the packet loss at hop 8, maybe due to my physical routing.

The only settings I have changed on my hub that could have any possible effect is my MTU is set to 1472 and Block Fragmented IP Packets is ticked.

Best of luck

Re: Lagging in all games

Hi Joseph90

Can you confirm if this is a business or residential account?

Kind regards

Chris

Re: Lagging in all games

Hi Joseph90,

Thanks for getting in touch. I am sorry to see you have had trouble with your connection.

I have taken a look and things seem to be ok from this side. It may help to try the following so we can rule some things out:

Pop the hub into Modem Mode with the computer in Safe Mode with Networking at different times of the day.

Try on separate devices.

Check Ethernet cable. Make sure it is new / up to date. (Cat 5e or above).

Make sure device is capable of agreed speed.

Check wireless card slide.

Take care.

 Emma

Re: Lagging in all games

I've tried everything. I'm using cat 6 ethernet cables. If m experiencing not only a speed where my downloads are fluctuating widely but also lots of lag in online games, like really bad freezing and skipping. Why is this happening? I'm on the Vivid 350 package and I'm frustrated why online gaming is a horrible experience for me. Also I also experience bad jitter, normally it's between 1-4ms but I've seen as high as 60ms. I may also add that there's about 26 other virgin customers in my area. Can that be causing bad quality connection? I've also been recommended getting a business broadband connection. Will that make a difference at all? Thanks

Re: Lagging in all games

Plus looking at the traceroutes I've posted the lag is occurring when it reaches zayo.com. This seems to me like like a routing issue. Can my data be routed differently or not?

Re: Lagging in all games

If your experiencing constant lag in online games and virgin have told you everything is fine with your connection, then obviously virgins network is bad for gaming regardless what people tell you on here. I would advise you to switch to either sky or BT if your an avid gamer. In tests conducted besides speed virgin are the worst for packet loss and jitter which is exactly what your issue probably is. For online gaming, virgin media are best to be avoided, you will get a far better experience with sky or bt and even plusnet. These 3 were ranked better than virgin.
