High ping, PS4 wired connection.

On our wavelength

Hi, I have been struggling with high ping and packet loss on any FPS on my PS4 for quite some time now, to the point I've decided to post on here. It's a wired connection to the superhub 3. Any time of the day. My speed test results are fine, consistent 200mb down, upload is good. Can some one check my connection please?

I have set up a broadband quality monitor and its showing the spikes already as below.

Has anyone any similar experience where you have a good speed but bad lag?

Thanks for your time.

Hey @rockwell21,

Many thanks for your recent post - I'm really sorry to hear you've been having these issues especially when gaming.

Thanks also for providing the BQM, this is very useful. I've also been able to locate your account via your forums details and have ran some further checks from our end and a few of your downstream levels are out of spec.

I'd like to get a tech visit booked in for you to check over things and hopefully get this resolved for you. I'll send you a private message just to confirm a couple of details, so please keep an eye on the purple envelope at the top of the page.

Many thanks,

Recently got "faster" internet but ever since, my PS4s ping has been around ~70. I'm using an ethernet cable, same one I was using on my old router, but getting worse ping despite having better speeds. The cable isn't damaged.

Any suggestions or ideas why this is happening?

Thanks for your post and welcome to the Community Forums, Edmondfg,

Sorry to hear that you have been having broadband connection issues, has the service improved since your post or have you tried replacing the ethernet cable?

Cheers,

Corey C

Hi, the technician attended my house yesterday. He was a nice chap who seemed to know his stuff. He initially thought he'd sourced the problem, the attenuator fitted to the back of the hub 3 was too high, it was a 10dB so he changed it to a 3dB. This increased the downstream levels from an average of -4dB to a more nominal level. Unfortunately when I showed him the broadband quality monitor he agreed that the ping and packet loss is in a bad way, and is most likely being caused by (surprise surprise) over utilisation. Please check my BQM and let me know how we can progress this.

Hi rockwell21

Thanks for coming back to us.

I've checked the system and cannot see any congestion. I've therefore reached out to the field manager for your area to get their thoughts and will be in touch asap.

Kind regards,

The 2nd tech came to my property yesterday, he worked on the green box across the road, pretty sure he said he moved my line over to a different node. He then ran some checks in the house and said everything was good. To be sure it wasn't a hub3 problem, he replaced that too. I went to check my BQM later in the evening and it was now showing pretty large packet loss spikes as well as the original ping spike problem. I decided to delete my BQM ( I know I can edit the IP but I just wanted to be sure) and start a new one. Results are as below
