For some time now I have had frequent disconnections from online games and also errors in downloaded films causing freezing etc.
Game support suggested I run a WinMTR scan after a disconnection to check for packet loss. They said it looks like I have a problem somewhere my end in the Virgin Media network. Can you tell me how to proceed with a fix please?
Last night was particularly bad... disconnected from game server approx 8 - 10 times. Each time I dc'd I immediately opened a browser and could not connect for 10 to 20 seconds then back to normal. I contacted tech support @ Virgin (cough) and lo and behold, everything is perfect, all lights in green, no faults detected - what a surprise!! I will try a different ethernet cable, and possibly try a separate Nic card, but frankly running out of ideas of what I can do my end. Should I fork out £150 for a router and try the SH3 in modem mode or should I just pay the £80 penalty for leaving within contract and get the cavalry from BT to come over hill and save the day? I pay Virgin £59 for Vivid 200, minimum TV and talk any time.
Purchased another router and put SH3 in modem mode.
Difference is night and day. No spikes on graph, no disconnects from game.
If you came here looking for help....DON'T BOTHER you won't get any...Bloody Useless, just like their **bleep**ing piece of **bleep** hub!
Welcome to MODEM MODE, the ONLY way to game on VM.
-- Red (VM SH2 AC Beta tester) Running on 350Mb VM service with SH3 in Modem Mode, with a ASUS RT-AC5300 router. With this setup I get Fantastic WIRED and WIRELESS Signals in my home. I dont work for VM. But I work in IT, and I know my tech. My advice is at your own risk.
