Connection keeps dropping out on PS4

Hi,

I had a booster installed for my broadband last year which I thought sorted all my connection issues. However in the last few weeks, my connection has been absolutely awful for dropping out every half hour or so. It drops out connects back around a minute later, but this is making gaming very very frustrating as on games like Fifa there’s a ‘did not finish modifier’ which reduces the amount of coins you can earn in the future. It’s meant to punish those who quit, but ends up punishing people like me whose connections keep cutting out for no apparent reason.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Is this affecting other devices too or just your PS4?

How is your PS4 connected, wireless or cabled? I'd always recommend cabling in your PS4 if possible as the PS4's wireless capability is rubbish and gaming on wireless can be flaky anyway.

I would recommend setting up a BQM via https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality and posting the results here as that will you/us an indication if your internet connection is to blame or your PS4.

Hey PurpleIsAFruit!

I know too much that problem unfortunately! Is there any roadwork around your house/flat? Maybe some recent bad weather damaged some network infrastructure around your area?

That what happened to me... after weeks of frustrations and call with my provider, they finally sent someone, that immediately noticed that a branch fell on a local network infrastructure and end up damaging it Smiley LOL and was causing the drops in my connection..

Hi, I just tried to reply but it wouldn’t let me.

I’ve been away for a few weeks and the problem has been really bad since I got back. An engineer visit would be great.

In the month since John_G posted he has left VM so that is why you couldn't reply to his PM.  Hopefully the @ModTeam can assign this to somebody else to arrange a visit for you.

Hello, I am having a very similar problem with my Xbox one (wired in). Constant disconnections which seem to last up to a minute at the most, but completely ruins everything. This has been going on for a very long time now, pretty much since we changed over to Virgin which was a year ago now. It is not only my Xbox that is affected by this, phones and laptops are having the same issues. How do i go about getting someone to come out and check everything over? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

@wezleywalton26 Calling VM and reporting your issue is the quickest way to get a response from VM, but not always the best response.  If you want to stick with the forum, it is normally best to create your own thread and describe your issue in as much detail as possible.  This helps to avoid confusion which can arise when replying to multiple customers in a thread with separate issues.  If the issue is not Xbox specfic then the Gaming board is probably not the best board to post on, I'd suggest the Networking and WiFi board:

While your symptoms may be similar the cause is not guaranteed to be the same.
