Can't play multiplayer games on Steam

Tried to play a number of multiplayer games on Steam over the last 18 months or so and lots of them just do not work?

Civilization, The Forest, Raft, PlateUp just to name a few.

They're all P2P style games and for some reason I just cannot connect, I always get an issue connecting to the host and they can't connect to me either.

I'm playing on PC, happens on both ethernet and WiFi connections. I'm connected to the WiFi via a third party router (TP-Link Deco), but I don't see why that would make a difference as all the settings are default.

Could it be a port forwarding issue? DNS? I've got no idea, one of the people I was playing with is with Virgin as well and he had no problems at all.

I've posted about this issue before and didn't receive any help so would really appreciate some if possible.

Did you put the HUB into modem mode?

It isn't no, I never thought of this being an issue but that could very well be the problem, I'll try switching it over at the weekend and see how it goes, thank you

Don't forget when in modem mode only your thrid party router/mesh system should be connected to the HUB via Ethernet.

All other wired devices must be connected to your router/mesh system.

Once modem mode is enabled and all other wired devices are disconnected from the HUB reboot it to ensure it provides an internet connection.

Awesome thank you for the advice, I'll try that and I'll update the post of it solves the issue, thanks!

Hi @NiallM8

Welcome back to the community forums.

Sorry to hear that you've not been able to play some of your P2P games on steam. I can see that you mention you're using 3rd party equipment in your set up. We aren't able to support with anything 3rd party unfortunately. Please do let us know if @carl_pearce advice has help resolve your issue, we can support you further if needed, but it would with our equipment only.

I decided that moving network fully is too much work so for the short term I'm just going to connect on the original Virgin Media network, however, that isn't working either? I've removed every setting that involves port forwarding and reset everything to original settings as far as I can tell and it still isn't working, I don't know what else I can possibly do?

I've just replied, could you please advise me as I have no idea what else I can do

Thanks for the response, however, I've decided for the meantime to abandon my tp link network for gaming purposes, but I'm experiencing the same issues connecting directly to the original VM network so are there other settings on missing?
