just started getting smtp p/w error - there have been no changes and was working last night? - unable to login to webmail with old chesnut
"Your mailbox is not available at the moment.
Please retry again in one hour and make sure you are using the correct password to access your email from all of your devices."
this is for an ntlworld account
service status says no issues - but what do they know!

Have you tried the advice given here to re-enable the account? https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Email-accounts-locked-mailbox-unable-unable-to-access-ema... That has worked at least for some people. 😐

its not that issue - but what ever it was - has miraculously been resolved by somde invisible force
