Unable to send emails for 2 days via SMTP

I have use SMTP to send my emails via smtp.virginmedia.com.  This is emails from my own domain and not virginmedia.

The SMTP authenticates using my original @ntlworld.com account but its been failing with I think an AUTH error.  My VM account is linked to my local domain email address.

Is it possible to see if the @ntlworld.com account is blocked?

I can still login to the VM website using my personal domain email address.  If I change the password for this does it also change the ntlworld account - or is there a direct way to change it?

Answering my own question:

Picked up from another thread that you can perform the following at a Windows 10/11 command prompt to see what error you might be getting from the VM smtp server:

curl -v smtps://smtp.virginmedia.com -u username:password

Tried this with my underlying ntlworld account and it showed an account locked message.  So changed password of my VM (domain email) account (which also changes the underlying ntlworld credentials) and re tried and all now OK with SMTP.

Note that I did not receive (as far as  can tell) any notification about the account being blocked or why.
