Setting up account in Windows Mail

I'm having trouble setting up email on Windows Mail. I'm following the guidance here

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Email-settings-change/td-p/3369438

but nothing works.

I don't even know if I am POP or IMAP, I go into email settings and there is nothing there that tells me this.

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Re: Setting up account in Windows Mail

See here for updating Windows 10 Mail settings: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-mail-update-settings-in-windows-10

Further information on using email clients is provided here: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-mail-how-to-use-email-with-mail-clients See under the Windows 10 Mail tab.

It's up to you to choose whether you configure your email client to use POP or IMAP.

For use on multiple systems (home computer/laptop/mobile phone etc.) IMAP is considered preferable as any and all changes are replicated across all devices.

Re: Setting up account in Windows Mail

Thanks, but I still can't get past this stage:

  1. Open Mail
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Manage Accounts

Under 'Settings' on my Virgin Webmail there is no option to 'Manage Accounts.' There is a 'edit' option which lets you add folders etc but I can't find anything that says ' Change Mailbox sync settings'.

Also, how do I recover my username and password for my Virgin Webmail account?

Re: Setting up account in Windows Mail

Try the following:-

Ignore Virgin Media Webmail altogether.

On your device

  1. Open Windows Mail
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Manage Accounts

Set up your email account on Windows Mail as previously noted.

To recover your username and/or password see here: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-reset-username-and-password

Re: Setting up account in Windows Mail

Thanks, I have done that, and am still getting problems.

I have a very old version of Windows Mail - it's not Windows 10! - it's Version  6.0, 2006.

I might give up using email clients like that and Outlook and just use Virgin Webmail instead. Seems like so much less hassle.

Cheers

Re: Setting up account in Windows Mail

Just curious, as you're using such an old version of Windows Mail, what version of Windows are you running?

I can recommend Thunderbird as easy to use and set up.  I like web mail, but the search function is pants, so having Thunderbird  on home PC is very useful.
