I’m getting message username or password is incorrect when trying to send a mail from IPhone. Obviously I haven’t changed any of those settings. Am receiving e-mails fine. Ntlworld.com account. Been ongoing a while

Most phones don't give a useful error message - they just report they got stuck, but don't feed back the VMxxx error code - which is essential to give you accurate diagnosis of what is causing the problem and how to solve it.
Can you access webmail in a browser (on your phone or any other device)? Can you send and receive through webmail? Webmail uses different servers so it is useful to know if that is working normally.
Is this problem replicated on other devices? Do you have access to any other device - if so what email client? Try to get the exact error code by following advice in this thread:
Thank you - it is good to know that you can use webmail - at least you are not completely closed off until we find the exact problem.
Just open a browser on your phone (safari) - the print will be small, but we want to know if webmail works on your phone, doesn't matter if you can read or write much!
Please answer another question that might help us - is the phone connecting using your home broadband/wifi, or using data connection? switch only one on at a time and try sending - is there any change? Which works and which doesn't - (this is regarding the mail app, not webmail)?
Also, you did not answer - do you have an email client on your desktop? Please install Thunderbird (it is free), and get that logging error code.
To be honest, deleting was something I had considered, anyway did that and following the exact settings in the link didn't work at all, 2nd time around Iphone set it's own settings and all works now. Not sure what the implications if any of that are..
