SMTP/IMAP Settings for EM Client

I have been using EM Client V7 for some time without problems, with IMAP set to port 993 using SSL/TLS on special port (legacy) and port 465 and the same security policy for SMTP.

I tried upgrading to V8 as invited, but there is a problem between VM and EM Client. (emails not being sent or received). Just wondered if anyone else is in the same boat, and if there is a possibility that the settings may have changed.

Thanks..

Re: SMTP/IMAP Settings for EM Client

I tried upgrading to V8 as invited”as a paying customer or a free user of V7?

I think you should be talking to eM Client Support -

There is at least one very current example there of eM trying to use the obsolete CRAM-MD5 authentication protocol.

Re: SMTP/IMAP Settings for EM Client

The first thing I point out to all users is that it doesn't matter what client you use, ingoing and outgoing mail uses the same system, and has done since the late 90's.  The only thing that changed was the addition of encryption of traffic (which in terms of mail programs we can ignore as this is done by the network stack).

Thus it doesn't matter what version of EM client you are using the ports and encryption types remain the same.

Have you gone into the account settings and had a look at the diagnostics page?

Tim

@BillC45 - I've got emClient 8 myself (I have a variety of mail programs installed so I can support people with their particular client - I'm that sad) - It definitely works with VM accounts as I use imap.virginmedia.com and smtp.virginmedia.com for my Blueyonder email.

Re: SMTP/IMAP Settings for EM Client

Thanks for the comments. I'm still using V7 of EMC, and I'm sticking with it at the moment looking at the problems users are still having with V8 as outlined on their forum. I tried the diagnostics when having problems when I briefly tried V8, and all I got was check account settings, which were exactly the same as when I was using 7.

Re: SMTP/IMAP Settings for EM Client

@zambo

Here's the version of emClient I have installed.  And here's the settings I use for my Blueyonder account.

Here's my General settings

My IMAP settings

And my SMTP settings

Because both IMAP and SMTP use the same username and password I've put them on the General page and then selected use Identity credentials on IMAP and SMTP.  This means that should I change my password, I only have to update the details on the General page.

The same settings will work for all the Virgin Media domains.

This is NOT an emClient 8 issue IMHO

Re: SMTP/IMAP Settings for EM Client

Ravenstar, one question before I proceed. I note that in Accounts you have Blueyounder as account name. I currently have my email address as account name, xxxxxxxx@ntlworld.com and that is working with eM C v7. Should I have ntlworld as account name, or doesn't it matter.

Cheers.

Re: SMTP/IMAP Settings for EM Client

The account name doesn't matter.  It's simply how the account is known on the computer itself.  It defaults to the accounts email address but I deliberately change it to something that's meaningful to me without showing the email address.

Re: SMTP/IMAP Settings for EM Client

Cheers. Had another go at installing V8 today, but no luck unfortunately. Tried sending an email to my Outlook account and it worked, but nothing coming back the other way. Tried running diagnostics and it said SMTP was OK, but the diagnostics for IMAP just ran and ran so gave up and reinstalled V7 again.
