New email address will not add

I am attempting to add an email address, both to Outlook and just in Virgin Media mail, but in neither case will it add. It won't add automatically, and when I try to add it manually using exactly the same settings as other additional email addresses I've added in the past, it again fails and says it has "Invalid credentials". I've been in to manage my accounts and changed the password, just in case, but it still fails. What is going on, and how do I get this email account added successfully?

Are you able to directly sign into the account in webmail?

No. It says user name or password not recognised.
