My virgin.net has stopped working

My virgin.net email stopped working on Saturday, if i try to log in i cant and i have tried to reset the password but it says i can't, it looks like the account has somehow been deleted.  i did get a mail undelivered email on Friday for something i hadnt sent so wondered if i had been hacked.  I am not currently with virgin media and its an old email so virgin wont help. any ideas

Yes and it’s not good news I’m afraid. Firstly use of any of the VM-branded email addresses is reliant on you being a paying VM broadband customer, otherwise any email addresses and mailboxes are prone to being deleted with no further notice.

There is a chance that when a member of the forum team (VM employees) get to this thread in a day or so, they will offer to get further details from you and check what, if nothing can be done. It ‘may’ be that temporary access to the mailbox can be sorted out, but I must stress that it’s a long shot, even if it does work then it will be a short-term (a few days, weeks at most) solution, and absolutely is a one-time only event. No excuses, the second time, it will be gone for good and permanently!

And if that last sentence seems harsh, it is because I would like to avoid the case a while ago on here where someone was in the same situation as yourself, was lucky in that they were able to gain access to the mailbox, but just sat back and did nothing with the reprieve. And when the inevitable happened and they were pleading ‘but it you did this once, surely you can again’ - actually no they can’t, your email has all gone, sorry about that!

Realistically, you do need to prepare for the real possibility that the email address, mailbox and all of the mail within it has been deleted and won’t be coming back. Do you have my sort of backup of the mailbox, and records of contacts within it etc?
