Lost of email access

Now I can’t even get on my email account on my laptop . 

If I ask to reset my password it tells me they are doing maintenance work ?. I use this account for all my work so why wasn’t I informed about this shut down

I said the same thing to them today on the call to customer service. Any decent company would have forewarned their customers. I haven’t been able to get any email since last Thursday. Can’t even access them through webmail as it says my password is wrong. Customer service say they can’t even reset it as the option has disappeared from their screen too. It’s a shambles!

Don’t suppose they gave any idea when or if it’s going to be fixed .?

If that estimate came from phone support treat it with a large pinch of salt.

As to some earlier questions.

Why weren't we informed of the shutdown?

What was being done wasn't actually a shutdown of the email servers as far as I can tell.  Indeed even though I was getting the holding page, I could still click on the virginmedia.com link and then log into my webmail account.

Add to that, for me I haven't lost the ability to send mails, although I do note that a good portion of those who say they cannot send, are still able to receive both with POP3 and IMAP.

However I should add that in saying the above, I am not belittling the importance of getting the mail service working correctly.  Although I've preached for many years that users should stop relying on ISP provided email addresses (and indeed have followed my own advice).

Mine has been off since the 4th June, so they just make it up as they go along. If they are going to do maintenance then email all users. If not don't **bleep** about with it. Give the job to someone who knows what they are doing and test it out first. Don't use us as guinea pigs!!!!!!!
