Just started receiving duplicate emails.

I admit that we still use Windows Live Mail on the computer for our family ntlworld emails.  Over the last hour we are receiving duplicate copies of messages.  It has happened occasionally over the years but I am curious what causes it and if there is anything I ought to do?

It is always tricky to get to the bottom of why duplicate emails appear whichever email client you use, especially when it seems a bit random.

Do those duplicates also appear in your VM webmail account on the VM website or do they only show up in Live Mail?

Also, it would be useful to know whether you have Live Mail set up to use POP3 or IMAP to manage your emails.

I note that you say "I admit that we still use Windows Live Mail"  so you probably are fully aware that Microsoft stopped supporting Live Mail years ago. Of course that means that any bugs that have cropped up since then will not have been fixed. I'll say no more than that. 😉

Thanks Coenoby

The duplicates have stopped but I have no idea whether they were in webmail or not. It appears I have opened a can of worms for myself. Because it is many years since I accessed webmail to use our ntlworld emails I cannot locate how I get there. VM website looks very alien to me now and I am rather lost.

Am I correct thinking the 2 named addresses my husband and I created originally have been suspended? Fortunately we can also still receive and send our mails using our mobiles.

It's my intention to replace the laptop shortly so I know I will have to swap from Live Mail then and am currently doing some research what do choose. I do use POP3 in Live Mail.

Hi @scarletp,

Thanks for your post, and welcome back to our Community Forums.

I'm sorry to hear there have been some problems when using the Mail Service. I'm glad to see @coenoby has been able to ask a few questions and provide some advice. You can access the WebMail service directly here.

I've taken a look on our side, and it does appear that most mailboxes on your service have either been manually terminated by you, or are still active. Please let us know if you're able to access the account directly through the WebMail, and whether the emails are duplicated there.

Cheers,

Reece - Forum Team

Thanks Reece

I had already located webmail and had already saved the live link. I was also able to get to the mailboxes we need and they are certainly still active in webmail which is a relief, although through habit we will continue to access them via Windows Live Mail and our mobiles for the time being.  Is it correct that not using webmail in a certain length of time can remove mailboxes?

It appears that the duplicates were not in webmail.

Cheers

"  Is it correct that not using webmail in a certain length of time can remove mailboxes? "

No that isn't correct, accessing the email account via any means should keep it active for as long as it is linked to a current VM broadband account.
