error : "server imap4 does not support being accessed using a secure connection "??
this has been like this for at least a year.
also on ipad can receive but not send emails.

Check that you are using the current server settings as set out here: Email settings change (virginmedia.com)
The reference to imap4 suggests you might be using an old server setting.
